The Mission

In the summer of 2017, after yet again purchasing too many games I had questionable intent of ever playing (much less enjoying), I realized that gaming had become more about collecting than actually playing. These titles would sit around, like that pair of corduroy pants I bought from the thrift store in 2009 that I convinced myself I would wear but never did. Enough was enough.
I resolved to take this on and named the project under one unifying banner – the Steam Backlog Project (SBP).
This page was created to document the journey as of the beginning of 2021, when I completely committed to the project and completing the list.
The Method
I listed all the games alphabetically and included the estimated amount of time it takes to complete the main story (using HowLongtoBeat.com). I split up the list into six columns with approximately the same total time required for each column, and began with the column I already had the greatest progress in. I’m streaming everything I can through Twitch and sharing highlights through Instagram. I also upload the full playthrough videos on YouTube.
The Rules
1. All games on the list will be played.
2. Any game that is unplayable (will not load, too bug-filled to progress) will be considered completed.
3. Any game that will load will be played for a minimum of one hour. If I’m really hating the experience, it’s completed. The point is to enjoy the game, not trudge through it!
4. Any multiplayer game or non-narrative (no main story to complete) will be played for at least one hour before being considered completed.
4. No new games, consoles, and (as of 2020) PC upgrades will be purchased until the list is 100% completed.
5. Any new games gifted/freely acquired after the start of the project will be added to the list.
